"Cute (I'm Not Cute)"
Polish goth/skater/punk pop group Blog 27 are probably the most forward thinking band alive. Proof? Well, their name is Blog 27 (does that mean there are at least 26 "blog" bands in Poland?!). Their first album was called LOL. If they're not the most accurate representation of teenage culture in 2008, they're the funniest parody of teenage culture in 2008. Maybe they're both. This song and video taken from their new album, Before I'll Die (!), is an A.D.D. pop trifle for the ages. It's pop! It's pop-punk! It's hip-hop! The thing features more stylistic change-ups than "Bohemian Rhapsody" in its neck-snapping three minutes. The quasi-English lyrics are legendary me-against-the-world nonsense: "Just let me be myself, yeah!/ You don't like me, I don't care!" Take that, mom! (Plus, the lead singer is a dead ringer for Ashlee Simpson circa "La La.") And with Ashlee and Avril leaving their rebellious roots behind and getting all glammed up, we need Blog 27 now more than ever. All hail the Polish pop revolution!
